His Story
A Life That Refused to Stay Small
Legend James has never done anything the expected way. From volunteering to deploy into the most dangerous zone in Iraq, to earning two master’s degrees while working full-time, to advising at the highest levels of the Pentagon — his life is a masterclass in transformations.

Legend James grew up in California with a vision bigger than his circumstances. At 22, he made a decision that would define the rest of his life: he enlisted in the United States Army as an Infantry Soldier. Not because he had to — because he chose to.
In 2007, when the 4th Brigade, 1st Infantry Division was sustaining heavy losses during the Surge in Baghdad, Isaac didn’t wait to be assigned. He volunteered. He joined a unit mid-deployment, trained up in a matter of weeks, and put himself in the line of fire alongside soldiers who needed him. His Battalion Commander later wrote that he demonstrated “an incredible drive and infectious positive example in all that he does.”
What makes James’s story remarkable isn’t just what he did in uniform — it’s what he did while in uniform. During an intense year-long combat training rotation, he enrolled at Upper Iowa University, attending classes at night and on weekends, completing 85 college credits with a 3.5 GPA. He didn’t pause his life for education. He layered it on top.
After his service, James brought that same refusal to settle into the civilian world. He earned a Master of Public Policy from Pepperdine University, where he was selected by the Law School to conduct counterterrorism research in Israel at the Inter-Disciplinary Center in Herzliya — witnessing firsthand the stability challenges of the Middle East. His dean, James R. Wilburn, called him “clearly among the most promising young leaders with whom I have ever worked.”
From Pepperdine, James entered the world of national defense as a Presidential Management Fellow, working within the Pentagon at the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Defense Information Systems Agency, and the Army Chief Information Officer. He managed billion-dollar programs, led cyber operations analysis for ARCYBER, and identified efficiencies that returned over $22 million to the Department of Defense. All while completing a second master’s degree — in Strategic Cyber Operations from George Washington University — at night.
Today, James is channeling every chapter of his life — every patrol in Baghdad, every late-night study session, every brief to senior generals — into a single mission: to help ordinary people experience extraordinary transformations. Not by lecturing. But by showing what’s possible when you say yes to the hard thing.
